What’s funny is about 5 years ago CDOs and CMOs were all the rage at my former employer.
First off, disclaimer: I’m trying to pay more attention to this site again, but I’d still consider all this posting an anomaly 😉
One of my co-workers is a self-proclaimed beer snob. For me, I’ve never thought of myself as being very picky: I stick to MGD most of the time, sometimes I get Blue Moon or Summer Shandy when I’m feeling like a change of pace.
However, recently, my beer snob co-worker decided to try and expand my horizons a bit. He gave me a bit of micro-brew homework this weekend: Ebel’s Weiss and Three Floyd Gumballhead. At first I didn’t really care for either of them straight out of the bottle, but tonight I tried them in a glass (swirling the last little bit in the bottle before pouring it in). I have to say, I’m impressed.
While I don’t see myself deciding what beer to drink based on the season, temperature, cloudiness, etc. I’m looking forward to trying more micro-brews. Apparently variety is the spice of life, especially with beer 🙂
Well, I went ahead an bought Spore anyway because I heard people at work saying it was pretty good. I played, I loved it. I played for about 3 days straight, logging about 16 hours of game time.
Then this morning I fire up Spore to play some more when I get an error message:
A required security module cannot be activated.
This program cannot be executed (5024).
Some searching on Google revealed that it’s because I used Process Explorer on my system. Note the past tense. I was’t actively running Process Explorer, I had run it since the last time I played Spore. Everything I found said a reboot would fix it. Sure enough it did.
So now, here I am a legitimate owner of this game, and if I ever start up Process Explorer (which is really just an incredibly nicer Task Manager), I’ll have to reboot to play the game I shelled out $50 for.
I guarantee you, after this, I’m never buying any game from EA ever again. I suggest you do the same. Or if you want the game, get a pirated copy, because all of this DRM bullshit is not stopping people from pirating or cracking this game, it only hurts the legitimate users like me.
